POSSIBLE APPLICATION POTENTIALITIES AND SCIENTIFIC AND/OR SOCIAL AND/OR ECONOMIC IMPACT
ARCHIM3DES fits the main topics identified by the Horizon Europe (HE) Mission area “Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters”, with particular focus on “Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society” and “Digital, Industry and Space“. The key aim is to combine research and innovation to acquire new knowledge and empower the blue economy by developing technologies and promoting their use in several applications, thus providing tangible impacts from multiple perspectives.
SCIENTIFIC IMPACT
ARCHIM3DES permits the definition of
new procedures, algorithms, and methods to solve open problems like Hybrid positioning for underwater navigation and data visualization for XR applications to improve high resolution underwater surveys. The project aims to develop a high-resolution measuring system suitable for archaeological contexts requiring particular accuracies.

TECHNOLOGICAL IMPACT
The technological impact of the project is the achievement of high-resolution surveys, both in terms of geometry and colourimetry contents, thanks to the development of hardware and software capable of overcoming the difficulties related to the marine environment. The project delivers a feasible methodology that allows mapping and monitoring a wide range of phenomena and can be exploited with the evocative use of
Extended Reality.

CULTURAL IMPACT
The project will contribute to creating dynamic national and international networks of underwater studies,
characterized by a constant exchange of experiences and information. It will also improve the visibility of underwater assets by
reinforcing cultural values, osmosis, and knowledge transfer.

SOCIAL IMPACT
The increased accessibility for those categories of potential visitors, who cannot enjoy the direct diving, through Extended Reality tools and online enhanced remote visiting experiences. The ARCHIM3DES project will ensure, from the beginning till the end of the project, gender
equality among its participants, as a necessary foundation for a sustainable project.

SOCIETAL IMPACT
The social benefits of the project result in multiple terms. First of all, the technological solutions delivered by the project allow us to accomplish technical operations in safe conditions by substituting scuba divers with marine drones when
necessary. The project will ensure the reproducibility of developed methodologies on the heterogeneity of environments with different light and hydrodynamic conditions, leading to safer, viable, and reproducible monitoring operations.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
The results provided by the project in terms of new equipment as well as new standard procedures for survey
and monitoring of archaeological assets and cultural heritage in underwater contexts allow for the delivery of new commercial
services and to produce new integrations between software and devices, thus enabling new job opportunities. Innovative monitoring and surveying procedures can promote underwater tourism, which combines in single activity leisure, sport, culture, and ecology, which is very profitable and highly sustainable, and the remote enjoyment of archaeological contexts.
